On August 26, Bayerischer Rundfunk ( Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation ) reported that solar power was vanishing into thin air due to insufficient transport or storage capacity. According to the Federal Network Agency, 6.1 TW of the renewable energies generated were unused in 2021 alone – 1% of German electricity consumption!

Why is that? Why don’t we use reserve capacities in the distribution network? Studies ( Net2DG: Leveraging Networked Data for the Digital electricity Grid ) indicate that on average 30% of the unused capacity in electricity distribution grids is available.

How can we tap into this capacity? The digital twin of the power grid makes unused capacities visible and offers suggestions for using them productively.

Doubtful? Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and see how the digital twin is being used by forward-thinking network operators.
